Emerging Technologies Summary for 2010

Emerging Technologies in Energy & Environment

The Energy & Environment Crisis is an Opportunity in Disguise

Globalization is expected to double the level of industrialization in about 10 years, producing a commensurate increase in the demand for energy, pollution levels, global warming, and other aspects of the energy and environment crisis. Our forecasts show that today’s growth of green business should take off in three-five years, and governments are likely to take serious steps to curb global warming about the same time. Alternative energy sources –  wind turbines, biofuels, nuclear plants, and solar cells – are growing 30-40% per year, roughly the same rate as Moore’s Law. The entire market for green technologies is expected to reach about trillion in time, larger than autos, health care, and defense. In short, the present energy and environment mess actually offers a great opportunity in disguise.

Emerging Technologies in Information Technology

Information Technology Changes Everything

Computer power continues to double every two years, a second generation of optical, biological, and quantum computers is poised to take over in a decade, and artificial intelligence is automating routine mental tasks and raising the level of knowledge everywhere. These profound advances are moving life online into a virtual world that is ever-present and intelligent.  The Web is the same age when color TV became the dominant force of the 20th century.  Within a decade, people are likely to speak to high-fidelity images on large wall monitors while working, shopping, learning, and conducting almost all other social functions.  You might buy something by simply talking with an onscreen robot that greets you by name, knows all the merchandise and displays it on demand, answers questions, and has infinite patience – the perfect salesperson.  This suggests a tipping point is imminent as IT matures to transform economics, markets, lifestyles, and social institutions.  The threats to existing businesses are likely to be vast – but so will the opportunities.

Emerging Technologies in E-Commerce

E-Commerce is Uniting the Globe

Most e-commerce today operates at about 10 -15% adoption levels, but our forecasts suggest that online shopping, publishing, education, entertainment, and other services are likely to reach the critical 30% adoption level soon where new businesses usually take off. And the huge populations of China, India, Brazil, and other developing countries are moving in droves to PCs, the Internet, and smart phones. We anticipate that four-five billion people will soon inhabit a digital world that is smarter, faster, and interactive, creating online markets of several trillion dollars. Instead of a liability, the poor actually represent a huge potential market for inexpensive goods. C.K. Prahalad, a leading business professor, said “The world’s four billion poor should be considered the biggest source of growth left.”

Emerging Technologies in Manufacturing

Manufacturing Goes High-Tech

The smoking factories of the Industrial Age are yielding to intelligent manufacturing systems operating worldwide to produce goods cheaply, quickly, and made to order. Research in materials and nanotechnology is making it possible to create almost any type of product, and mass customization can deliver an endless stream of sophisticated goods designed for individuals. The Japanese and Koreans have produced intelligent robots that can walk, climb stairs, and speak with humans, and they are finding work as office receptionists, security guards, and helpers in offices and homes.  Driven by the pursuit of cheap labor and new markets,  these changes are likely to bring industrialization to poor nations over the next few decades. However this economic growth is also producing mounting demand for scarce resources, increasing loads on the environment, and clashes between diverse cultures. An industrialized world will be a boon to business – but making it sustainable is an enormous challenge that will test us for decades.

Emerging Technologies in Medicine

Medical Advances Confer Mastery Over Life

A  variety of breakthroughs is likely to provide mastery over the process of life itself. Artificial organs are being developed to replace almost all bodily functions, including parts of the brain, and stem cell research is increasingly able to repair organs. Electronic medical records, online doctor’s visits, computerized diagnostics, and other forms of telemedicine should curtail rising costs and improve quality of care. Nanotech is being used to develop tiny devices that are intelligent enough to seek out cancer cells, small enough to enter cells and destroy them, and are safely removed by the kidneys. The U.S. National Cancer Institute thinks cancer deaths could be eliminated by 2015. Just as the Industrial Age mastered most aspects of the physical world, these advances are now making it possible to master the biological world.  Yes, it sounds too good to be true, but so did the notion that men could fly, much less travel to the moon.

Emerging Technologies in Transportation

Transportation Is Moving Faster and Farther

Our forecasts show that a new wave of green autos powered by hybrid, electric, and fuel cell engines should enter the mainstream about 2013 – 2018, and we are likely to see “intelligent cars” that may even drive themselves. So there are growth opportunities for automakers if Detroit can get its act together. It may seem that information systems could replace travel, but information forms a virtual world that parallels the physical world. People will always want to visit each other, handle the merchandise, and hammer out tough decisions together. The need for physical contact is inexhaustible, and studies show that growing virtual contact makes face-to-face relations more necessary.

Emerging Technologies in Space

Space is Going Private

CEO Richard Branson is scheduling the first suborbital flight of tourists aboard Virgin Galactic for 2010, and competitors are rushing their own plans, including visits to the Moon and space hotels. Just a few years ago the idea seemed laughable, but it now looks like space tourism will soon launch the realistic possibility of opening the final frontier to private ventures. Burt Rutan, who leads Virgin Galactic’s effort, said: “If we reach our goal of flying 100,000 people in the first ten to twelve years, you are going to see unusual creativity. As the thrill of experiencing space becomes available to almost anyone, it is easy to imagine the floodgates of entrepreneurial creativity opening to permit a rush of new ventures – roughly the way the Wild West was tamed by pioneers a century ago. Our experts estimate that people will commonly take orbital flights around the Earth as safely as airline flights in about 5 years, signaling a watershed from government control to free enterprise.

Essential Student Learnings for 2020 Through Advanced Technologies

July 12th, 2010 by Admin | No Comments | Filed in Technology Information

introduction

Advances in both cognitive science and information technology have the potential to transform education and training in previously unimaginable ways. To the foundations for learning in leadership Federal technological innovation, published in September 2002, the Commerce Department Visions 2020: Transforming Education and Training through Advanced Technologies. were honored for Visions 2020, a number of individuals and teams from a wide range of technology and education asked to look into the future and describe what might look like the technology-enabled learning experiences. They reacted with a rich collection of visions, some of which are excerpted in this report. Visions in 2020 identified potential technologies, their application for learning, and how the learning environment would need to change in order to take full advantage of them. With a vision in hand, the Commerce Department convened a summit on the Use of Advanced Technologies in education and training. At the top possibilities interest groups, technology-enabled transformation in U.S. to promote education and training identified. The U.S. Department of Commerce and Education (co-chair the working group NSTC) and Net Day partnership aimed to analyze K-12 students views on the technology in the learning set. These views are analyzed in this second report, Visions 2020th 2: Student views on transforming education and training through Advanced Technologies. In October-November 2004, NetDay sponsored its “Speak-Up Day for students,” asked the on-line questionnaires, the K-12 students throughout the country, offered through their use of technology.

Collapse of the information float

Not only that information in a fast-growing, to the time lag between discovery and application – the information “float” – is shrinking rapidly. For example, it took many centuries for the steam engine to move from a curiosity to move a commercial product. In contrast, recent discoveries in science and technology show up in products virtually overnight.

Education must focus on new skills
focus
Changes of this magnitude require a rethinking of the entire training, both in terms of the curriculum and in the development of pedagogical approaches that each student’s high level of skills to enter the dynamic world of the 21st Century flourish acquire insurance. In addition to the basic skills of reading, writing and arithmetic, each student must also master the “three C’s: Communication, Collaboration and Creative Problem Solving. In addition to this the equally important skills are knowing how to use numbers and data in real-world tasks, the ability to locate and process relevant information necessary for the task at hand, technological skill, and above all the skills and attitudes to a lifelong learners.

Technological fluency is a basic skill

Technological fluency is a step beyond the technological competence. To fluently technology means that we are sitting at the computer and use it as easily as we can pick up and read a book in our mother tongue. The challenges facing education today, preparing students in the use of computing and communication technologies is one of our most fluent.

Education must prepare students for jobs that are still to be invented prepared

If our challenge may be limited in order to prepare the population for the type of jobs available, we would need a lot of work to do. Unfortunately, the challenge is even greater. Many of the jobs that will be available have yet to be invented at the turn of the century.

If you doubt this, consider the following. One of the occupations in great demand today is that the Webmaster – a person who designs, builds and maintains websites in the World Wide Web. This job does not exist a decade ago. In fact, it has not even exist five years ago! This means that people who work in this new area, have acquired their skills largely on their own.

ESSENTIAL STUDENT Learnings for 2020

• Use technology to involve students and parents in the assessment.

• Give each student a lifelong e-portfolio.

• Review team work, collaboration and creativity with technology, eg through games, simulations, etc.

Technology will enable us to give up

• The role of the teacher as transmitter of knowledge and students as recipients.

• The “top down”, a unique model of initial and continued teacher training.

• Textbooks.

• Traditional methods of assessment of content in one-time, big test test phase.

• Hard times in the classrooms

• The traditional notions of space and school school

Innovations of the time

• Flexible working hours (staff & students)

• Learning should be possible, all day every day

• Self-controlled, time management

• True individualized learning programs

• Clever use of ICT

• Move away from the prescribed times at the beginning and end of school

Technology

Computer Based Training is a period of single-user tools in which the computer made its entrance into the general and was in use for mathematics, computer-aided design, simulation programs, the final calculation, writing and presentation skills. Online learning is multi-user tools, such as communication tools, streaming on the World Wide Web (WWW), video and a virtual learning environment for online courses. Lecture Notes have been digitized and put online, as well as video snapshots together with references to publications that could be reached via hyperlinks. Underlying tools for communication are used in both directions at this time-and place-independent way of learning support. Learning-on-Demand represents the next generation web-based virtual learning environment in which learning materials, up to the specified learning objects is broken, will initially be online is educational for the regular title. The underlying systems will be merged with composite technologies and features of several complex learning systems are collected.

Four changes

Many school principals and school boards not currently recognize the need for fundamental changes in schools and education systems in general. Some of them have already launched a revolutionary experimental schools. Initial results from these schools show that students use the new approaches that have been adopted and that learning results are satisfying love. In the Netherlands for about six schools recently collapsed completely new lines of work begun

Future schools

• 4 hour periods

• Interdisciplinary Topics

• areas for 90 to 120 students

• Continuation of individual learning pathways

Questions to the NEW TECHNOLOGIES 2020

The Learner

• The technology enables a “new Student 2020″ – responsible, independent, exciting.

• We identify and agree on what we the students, as first glance want and need, then use the technology to make it happen.

“Do not use technology for technology’s sake, but seamlessly into the curriculum so that it is second nature to the teachers and students must be integrated,”

School Design

Schools as an extended learning centers.

• On-line tutoring / mentoring available 24 / 7

• Change time structures for learning and immersion to allow real-time research.

• Use technology to facilitate and design class individual progress, immediate access to ICT as appropriate.

Intelligent Tutor / Helper

No concept attracted more attention from the student responder as a kind of intelligent tutor / helper. Many students want as a tutor or assistant for use in school and at home.

The Oracle: Many students expressed interest in an “answering machine” that could make by a student, a specific question and the machine would respond with an answer. Similarly, some students described a kind of knowledge utility. Through a computer or an Internet web site, all students could access the knowledge of the world from any location.

Make it a game

• One way to fun children could have done their homework. Someone could invent videogame homework.

• Video games, historical events or scientific experiments replay. People love games, and what better way to learn than by telling the story, though he in a position to enact it.

Take Me There

• Things like virtual reality careers we could do. We were able to work in an environment in which we would work in future without really there, but still be able to explore and see what it was.

• 3-D simulators replay of historical events.

• Computer, which has a virtual tour on it so, if a country, you can go on the computer and a tour through it.

On-line classes

• Computer with a built-school system so you can at home, without having to learn to walk to school.

• Virtual classrooms where the children stay home and learn. The teacher could be on the computer or on a TV screen with a video camera or webcam. In this way, no one would miss a day in school when they were sick.

Working Digitally

• IM on school computers, and, if a student can not get up, ask a question or speak, you can just IM someone!

• Website with various topics and teachers there to teach students different subjects. In this way we can return to school and we want to, we would not wake up so early in the morning to get on the bus.

Before the marking period closes •, students see their grades online to see what is missing work and tasks to them or you if a contract can not improve it.

A Different Kind of Teacher

• Computer, like a personal teacher who has a lot of patience and that can talk.

• teacher for every student, but no real teachers. They should be holograms and they should know everything

• Robotic teacher so we could learn more things and do not get, yelled at so often.

A Different Kind of Book

• Digital books to read the lesson to you, and you learn certain things. The matter would be language-sensitive, so we could read, and it would be to correct your reading.

• dictionary that talks. So, if children do not speak a word they see, they hear the dictionary pronounce for them.

Attributes of the learning process

• Computer manufacturing, realistic images of each topic. For example, the operation of machinery or human organs.

• 3-D simulations in classes such as science, because there are often not safe or necessary materials available.

A computer for each student

• Laptop that not much, so that each student could have yours on the desk.

• We already have laptops, but every student seen with a laptop computer with updated software that will aid in their homework is to use beautiful. This could reduce the burden because the student-computer to frequently asked questions to.

• Laptop computers should be given as a school supply of all students in the future.

The Need for Speed

• Faster modems would help the children in the future. It would be much easier for them, and they are not always stuff not because of the time it takes to load everything done worry.

• We need new, faster computer.

Want It Wireless

• Wireless Internet everywhere: in the park, at home, hospitals and everywhere. In this way it is wireless, Internet wherever you go undisturbed. This gives the child a chance to get to where he is.

Make it safe to use and easy

• Simplified version of the Internet for youngsters.

• Something should be invented that filters out false information on each site. It is very misleading and confusing to find on other facts on different websites, so it would be very helpful if there was a way to filter out false information.

24-7 Access:

• Access to the network from your school online at your home.

• Access to the website of the school and information from our houses, because it would help a lot with school projects and homework.

Conclusion

During 2020, every student would be using a small handheld computers, wireless voice-enabled. The computer would offer high-speed access to Internet with a child-friendly sites, the safe, designed specifically for use by students populated, with no pop-up ads. With this device, would be the students most of their in-school, college work and complete homework as well as online courses at school and at home. Students would use to play the small computer math learning games and read interactive e-textbooks. In completing their homework, the students would work closely and regularly with an intelligent digital tutor, and tap a knowledge utility to obtain factual answers to questions they pose. In their history studies, pupils in 3-D virtual reality-based to participate historical persecution.

Outsourcing Software Development – Elan Emerging Technologies

June 13th, 2010 by Admin | No Comments | Filed in Technology Information

many other IT outsourcing services, including in accounts and payroll outsourcing outsourcing, but now, rising for the latest trends, product development outsourcing in India. There are many small to medium businesses that outsource part or in full product development are the Indian counterparts. Until now
this trend is not much encouragable in software outsourcing. Only large companies like Adobe, Microsoft has been doing product development in India and also in its development center. But now many Indian companies have started product development and began to enter into the software product development outsourcing. It is expected that increased business volume is around 100% in the offshore outsourcing product development. Product development requires skills that has not specialized in any software outsourcing companies. Product sales of companies in USA and Europe can reduce its costs for software development by doing offshore outsourcing. On the other hand, they can concentrate on marketing and new ideas. Also they can get to people with special skills if they want to do on their own. If you prefer to create their own small development center in India, it can not be very useful. By aligning with the Indian software outsourcing companies, they can get access to wider skill range. software outsourcing strength with increasing number of available sources in the present IT-edge gathered, requirements delivery possible least time, less skilled personnel available, discrete communication and inefficient management of the various modules within a large company. These corporate players sought and any third party for better management at lesser cost and remain competitive in the global market. These are the factors that a few large companies, their software development of applications for offshore companies, where they find time zone difference from eastern countries most attractive, cheaper human capital, rich resources and skilled professional and low cost led to outsource processes. Market analysis shows gradual penetration of the investors in the Indian market and other developing countries. We find increased productivity, managed easy solutions where full control remains in the hands of the outsourcing companies. For the Indian software outsourcing companies, is the product very lucriative market. Because companies can compare the costs much higher billing rate for software outsourcing services. On the other hand, it is also more expensive to find and maintain the quality of software engineers. For more information please visit: http://www. elantechnologies. com

Emerging Technologies and Their Impact on Society

April 27th, 2010 by Admin | No Comments | Filed in Technology Information

low tech local environment where an overwhelming majority are still struggling to find and access the required information, there are some high-end users who already complain of information overload. busy executives, decision makers and others have with the use of computers in work and meaningful pursuits, all high-quality news can get. They turn to the Web, because it has huge amounts of information acquired in almost all areas of human activity. But what is information in the first place? Technically speaking, “information is that in some context for his stimuli Receiver importance. When information is entered and stored in a computer, it is commonly referred to as data – information in a form that is convenient to move or process is translated. If information is packaged, or to do for the understanding or something, it is known here as knowledge – for a company or an individual, the possession of information or the ability to quickly locate. “For the purpose, I think the term” information “is the correct description of some of what the Internet, but as knowledge or wisdom. Advances in Web technologies and their increasing use, the production, distribution, and sharing of information so much easier than what it was only a decade ago. It is the period of business practices and processes that have otherwise taken a long time would be reduced to be implemented based on. But information comes with an additional excess of irrelevant junk to sight unclear and inaccurate data, even conflicting, making it difficult, what is and what is not important. This “excess information beyond what is desired or required by each user does not require productive process is called” information overload. The number of hours available and the inherent human ability to absorb information have remained almost the same over years whereas that access, understand and digest information had gone many times. Local Scouting market indicates that most economic concerns have not fully appreciated by him offered possibilities. Notable exceptions aside, have computer technology that were not integrated within corporate systems as of yet. are set up for many a CEO, President and Chairman of companies in the connected computer on their desks just another part of office equipment will only be used by others. But for inspiring examples that have taken the initiative and used the technology, the information from a marginal, specialist responsibility not only moves a central component of any business. Demand for executives, managers and staff in these futuristic organizations to raise awareness has increased and is ready to deal with the opportunities by increasing range of information. In this environment, high-end users are becoming overwhelmed by the size of the information from multiple sources. What is more, at some point the information is not on the surface. It is often difficult to understand if a web article is just a sales pitch, self-serving view, a study by the manufacturers and sponsors to win something, or it is objectively wrong. There are a lot of crap in other forms. Search engines are also successful sales placements. by high-quality information in good time and productive. With more and more information from so many different sources, users must be able to determine the quality of the information before using it. But can determine the quality will be difficult. Many users are not particularly good at filtering and managing information that comes their way. Technologies so far can handle quantity but not yet mature enough to recognize the quality of the information. Therefore, an overloaded with information helpful to those who get it are facing? The avalanche of information, as per experts, in extreme cases can lead to undesirable results in the form of stress, frustration or physical illness. “The worst is the situation where organizations are going through change – change from the old style of handling information to IT or IT-dependent, where new generation of leaders is taking over family businesses,” said Dr. Norbert, an architect who uses the Internet to help companies do in the field of call centers. “I have to keep up to date on the technology sector. I have to review feedback from customers and also see what competitors by visiting their sites do, reading online news releases and newsletters. The information that I get one of the most important tools in my sales game, but I fear that I miss so much, “he adds. David, an astute businessman operating a money-changing machines concern in Lahore, has two screens on his desk (also a number of phones and mobile phone sets). Sometimes his assistants bring yet other mobile for him to answer when he tried on the rapidly rising and falling exchange rates concentrated in the world money market. He has to answer chat monitor signals from fellow money changers and continuously, which come in the inbox, sometimes firing immediate answers. He says: “Given the nature of my business and rapid fluctuations in exchange rates, I have to keep a constant clock on the global market of money. That’s what I do last a bit before going to bed and the first, if I am on before coming to the office. I also I can to important events in the world, the actual impact on the economies of the world to follow voices. But it is hard to follow, to keep them all. I would some for me but it’s not really possible in this business. “before it, uses the first piece of paper to Kurt Senta face every morning in his office after the next was a day before inventory report from three different tent and canvas products manufacturing exporting units and he is in Kot Lakhpat administration. “Before we employed IT personnel use night in order to produce required inventory report. Now my inventory is on networked computers and is up-to-date all the time. I see it at any time. Based on this I can shift resources from one unit to another and control production. But if it is required to provide information for my business in the global market, it is sometime a real challenge to find what I want and weed through the junk . ‘It must be an equilibrium point somewhere. Users have to define exactly what they need and how much detail. There are technical corrections such as the use of filters, email managers, favorites, and the like to prioritize in the coming information. Some other intriguing technologies, how people mine the Internet for information are in the pipe. But enough technical solutions alone. “You can even aggravate the congestion problem, because rather than how much you need, they make it possible to get more. But with enough time and practice, you get in distinguishing what is important in a particular area as,” thinks Umar Manzoor. In response to a question, Tatiana Andronache, Canadian Information Systems Professional emailed, “Information Overload is a fascinating phenomenon, any Web user experience at least some time. I have no idea what will the human race with all the information: writings, analysis, pictures, sound recordings, films, websites, you name it. People do not seem healthier, richer and happier because they have them. On a personal level, I am working through prioritization, time-boxes and, if possible, multi- -tasking. What is done is done, what is not – oh, well, I avoid time suckers such as surfing the internet (I go to sites where I business and finish quickly), any forums, chats, very little TV. Radio is a popular, because not bind me to do. “The first step to possible overload is to fight with information to identify the needs and take control. There is no universal formula suitable for users from different areas of interest, therefore, make all your own schedule and shortcuts. “Knowing what is needed and cutting out unnecessary clutter outside the desired level saves a lot of time,” says Dr. Norbert. Then users should decide what is manageable, taking into account time availability, the capability to absorb and retain information. This provides for the establishment of boundaries, the information and makes it the first game first. Users should also understand when to stop collecting this information and make further use. And acknowledge that none get to know everything. Information has made a big difference in the world of business, in particular, and the chances that it will continue too. Those who deal specifically with them, you can ensure their way with him and fight information overload.
